so im 14 and i want to sell mini games on itch.io for 2$ and i pitched the idea to friends and family and most said i'll need to pay tax or file a w2 so i wanted to know if this is true

It depends. In the USA, if you sell your games independently on itch.io that makes you a self-employed person.
If you make $400 or more selling games as a self-employed person, you need to pay tax.

However, if it is less than $400, then there is no need to pax tax. However, you must still file if you meet certain requirements.
