Hi guys and gals,
We are a two man team, I'm doing scripting, music, sfx and graphics/animations. My partner is doing the writing. We use Ink to create something of a visual novel/ choose your own adventure set in a side scrolling (city) world. We are fans of the old point and click games and that is more or less the inspiration for this game. Even tho we are going for something quite different that is more exploration/dialog driven. Puzzles will take a smaller role. The emphasis is on the story/dialog, the handdrawn art and the DIY music. In a later version we hope to add a virtual band and gallery exposing artwork by a colleague inside the city world.
This is where the background music/ soundtrack is shared:

Re: This platform city (Handdrawn platform exploration game)
(build 2) Some progress, focusing on the graphics right now
(build 1) There is a showcase of what the dialogue is like in the game in here somewhere
Re: This platform city (Handdrawn platform exploration game)
Looks interesting! What is the game about?
Re: This platform city (Handdrawn platform exploration game)
The actual writing has only Just begun. But we have this notion that you Just lost your best friend and are exploring the city looking for a way out of the mess that is your life. Avond the way we are considering lots of things. We are thinking of having characters reflect ideologie and culturele biasis from different decades. Like the end of history optimisme of the 90s and the tech economy and hype we experience now with things like machine learning, uber etc. One of the People you meet would be daydreaming to become a tech entrepreneur. paralel to that we wanna zoom in on artists, specifically the kind that are unsuccesful and living on the internet kind of show how you can be lost in the crowd. But alsof show some sort of romance to it.
I know this is all still way to vague. We are still building on ideas. One thing we wanna do is have constant forward momentum. So the dialogue wont keep circling back to initial choices, but will always have a bespoke response leading you forward. Giving the game more forward momentum and replayability.
